NaNo 05

So, as I prepare for the November novel, I have decided to try using an outline. A new and time-consuming experience so far, but I am hoping it will do what free-form did not. Which is to say, I wont end up with the confusion tha tI had with the last novel, and I might have a better first draft.

Only problem is, I'm about halfway through the novel and the outline is SIX PAGES LONG, so I'm wondering if I will actually end up making this short enough to submit for publising. Barbara says I should aim for 75k, but it's not looking like that's going to happen. Perhaps I will try for a first draft, and then cut out what isnt necessary in the second draft. Hmmm

As it is, looking over the outine I am happy to have it recorded, because there are a few events listed that I forgot about, and it's real easy to add major plot events I forgot to include. Yay for outlines! At least, until I know if it will work for me. Part of me says this is all just an excuse to be working on Novel 2.

*ahem*

1 - outlines are the only way I keep a plot together
2 - never do anything to a book so that "it will get published", thats an editors job

Re: *ahem*

1. Yes, I am hoping it will work that way for me too
2. I am not eriting the book so it will get published, I am told it should not be too long, and I am not in the mood for another 300 page deal
3. Pokie! Send me an e-mail so I can mail you my novel, I dont have your address.

Re: *ahem*

*Hurumph* My novels always end up really short because I am obsessed with brevity. As a result, I am less likely to be published but really, I cannot write something longer without compromising the quality of my work. I suppose this is the essence of (2) above.

3) email sent.
